Ancestral Healing: Horoscopes September 7-September 13, 2026

I have had a complicated relationship with the concept of ancestral healing work for some time. On the one hand, reverence is a feeling and experience that is deeply important to me and it is amazing to think of the longevity and persistence of life. On the other hand, a lot of my ancestors were true narcissistic assholes, often on the oppressor side of history, and I have no qualms about identifying that.

It occurred to me some years ago that we have both biological and spiritual ancestry, and it was easier for me to venerate those who have passed who have offered me spiritual wisdom from beyond the grave than my biological ancestors. However, as I have looked more into my own ancestral heritage, acknowledging the American genocides but being open to the fact that my ancestral line does not stop there, it has helped me do some work to integrate my biological ancestry. I suspect that as more white people start to honor our pre-capitalistic pre-colonial ancestral roots, we may be better able to participate in repairing our communities.

This week’s New Moon in Virgo invites us to consider any inheritance we have from our families around helplessness related to power and how we can transform that into healing for ourselves and future generations. This week also includes aspects that invite us to deep and transformative thinking around how we authentically show up in relationship and build community. Honoring our own needs can be a start.

For horoscope principles this week, I am primarily looking at the following celestial events:

  • The Sun goes from Gate 64 (using confusion as an access point to creativity) to Gate 47 (transforming ancestral oppression into healing) on Wednesday, September 9, 2026 at around 2am Pacific. The New Moon in Virgo happens in Gate 47, which invites us to look at our ancestral patterning and the ways we can engage in healing of our ancestral lines, whether than means reparations we offer to others or to ourselves.

  • Thursday, September 10, 2026:

    • Venus goes into Scorpio at 1:06am Pacific. Venus in Scorpio is here for the depth of connection, not the performance of it. Venus is governs beauty and relationship. The beauty of Venus in Scorpio is goth and her relationships are intense. Going from Libra, where Venus is about harmony and impressionism, in Scorpio she dives into her blood bond and Girl Interrupted era.

    • Mercury goes into Libra at 9:20am Pacific. Mercury in Libra is more interested in communication and thinking that will build harmony and connection than what is technically accurate. In Virgo, Mercury analyzes and researches, but in Libra they connect and beautify. It is important to still pay attention to what is true, but if your thinking has felt harshly perfectionistic lately, this gives you a chance to soothe some of that edge.

    • Venus in Scorpio opposes Chiron in Taurus at 10:15am Pacific. Right as Venus goes into Scorpio, she opposes Chiron in Taurus. This is the last major planetary aspect to Chiron before he retrogrades back into Aries. This can bring up our wounding around having sexual needs on a physical level and codependency we have developed to meet our needs instead of honoring them.

    • Uranus stations retrograde in Gemini at 11:27am Pacific. If you have planets in the early degrees (0-5 degrees) of mutable signs (Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius, and Pisces), they are going to be revisited by the instability Uranus brings between now and March 2027. Early 2027, planets in late degrees (28-29 degrees) of fixed signs (Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, and Aquarius) may feel this as well, but it is likely to be less pronounced. Hard Uranus transits shake things up that are stagnant so that we can re-evaluate what is correct for us and truly aligned.

    • The New Moon in Virgo happens at 8:26pm Pacific. This means both the Sun and the Moon are at the same place in the sky, offering us some sweet Virgo energy. This New Moon is applying to a sextile with Mars in Cancer, which adds some protective action to the moment. Because the Sun, which represents our sense of conscious identity, and the Moon, which represents our sense of security, are in the same place, it gives us a chance to really sit with that Virgo area of our charts and offer it some sacred healing.

  • Saturday, September 12, 2026:

    • Mercury in Libra trines Pluto in Aquarius at 8:59am Pacific. This happens at almost the exact time as the aspect below, so I will address them together.

    • Mercury in Libra opposes Neptune in Aries at 9:37am Pacific. Along with the trine to Pluto, this offers us the opportunity to look at whatever it is that we don’t want to look at in our thinking and our communication. But, you have to take the opportunity in order for it to work for you. This combination of aspects can make us unreasonably optimistic in a way is self-aggrandizing or self-loathing, or, if we use it in our favor, it can invite us to be clear in how we think and communicate, even when it is painful. No matter how clear you are, not everyone will listen, but you can still be true to yourself and what is in alignment for you.

  • Sunday, September 13, 2026:

    • Mercury in Libra trines Uranus in Gemini at 7:39pm Pacific. Whenever we unblock a limitation we’ve carried, integrate a shadow part, or allow a wound to be uncovered so that it can heal, we have to decide what we are going to put in its place. If you clean out a dusty corner of your house and leave it, the dust accumulates again. But, if you start using that space, it becomes an active party of your energy. Likewise, after Mercury uncovers wounds on Saturday, Sunday offers us the energy to shift and find the new thinking and communication we want to engage with.

  • The Moon travels through Cancer, Leo, Virgo, Libra, and into Scorpio this week; Mars continues in Cancer; Jupiter continues in Leo; Saturn continues in Aries.

These are the principles to consider for the week of September 7, 2026. It is worth taking a look at both your rising and sun sign horoscopes (visit astro.com to find your rising sign):

Aries: The concept of epigenetics says that the traumas our ancestors experienced are inherited in our genes and how we engage in the world has the power to heal those traumas for ourselves and generations going forward or turn them against us. This week, consider how changes in your home and family, whether you like them or not, may be able to contribute to the epigenetic healing available for your body. It is a good week to set up an ancestor altar to honor what you want to bring forward.

Taurus: There is a con artist rule that says if you want someone to trust you, ask them to do you a favor. Your need for relationships that have integrity tells you to do the opposite—protect your privacy and meet your own needs. There is some merit to that. This week, however, consider whether allowing people to do you favors may have a transformative power toward the service you provide in the world. Allowing other people feel needed contributes to the interdependence of the overall community.

Gemini: Most of us think we are observing life, when really we are seeing life through a subjective perspective informed by biology, culture, and other factors. In order to protect us, our brains are biologically and culturally skewed to feed us thoughts that tend more toward limitation and self-abuse than toward over-optimism. This week, though, offers you the opportunity to treat your thinking as a creative project. Consider what you would choose to think about life and yourself if your thoughts were a canvas you could paint with your favorite colors. Then, turn that into an actual communication creation, whether it is in a journal, blog, or chat with a friend.

Cancer: Biological and chosen siblings are some of the people who most help us define who we are because, generally, we know we can express annoyance, frustration, and even anger at them without losing relationship. This week, consider what has most irritated you recently and what that might mean about your needs and the reliability of your closest relationships. Consider how you can express your needs more simply and clearly and expect to have them met.

Leo: Ramit Sethi says that in order to live a “rich life,” you need to understand what richness means to you. This is a good week for you to sit with that question. Rather than creating a budget out of restriction, consider how you can look at where you invest your money as an indicator of what is truly meaningful to you. When you discover what is meaningful to you, be sure to share it with your closest community.

Virgo: What we think people “should” value and what we personally actually value are sometimes very different things. You know you value something by looking at your actions. This week offers you the energy to think deeply about what you value, not just what you think you should value. Look back at the past 24 hours, or beyond that to the past week. Where you spent your time is what you value most right now. If that is not aligned to what you want your values to be, now is a great time to make adjustments.

Libra: When we are children, it can feel like (or actually be) a matter of life or death that the adults around us be healthy and approve of us. As adults, then, rather than directly asking for what we need, we try to prove we are good enough to have our needs met or make sure everyone around us is happy with the expectation they will then meet our needs. This week offers you the chance to shift that. In your thoughts and communications, notice indirect ways you try to have your needs met, and consider how you could invite support more directly.

Scorpio: Sometimes, healing is the dramatic experience of opening up an infected wound, but other times healing is something subtle that happens over a long period of time without any fanfare. For you, both types of healing may be available in the coming weeks. If there is enjoyment available from your friends and social groups, bring your idealism to that. Also, your self-talk should be your biggest advocate, so allow this week to transform any space where that is critical instead of supportive.

Sagittarius: Most structures and systems we engage with in life are cults. This only really becomes a problem when we attribute responsibility for our actions to our group or leader or when we act as though people not in our group are dangerous or bad. For example, liking a sport or team is not necessarily a problem until we dehumanize people who like a different sport or team. This week offers you the opportunity to enjoy the groups you are in and also consider places where you have attributed responsibility for your thoughts and actions to others so that you can reclaim your decision making.

Capricorn: Rather than asking yourself whether an idea has evidence or not, it is more helpful to ask whether the idea is healthy and supportive of you. Thoughts and beliefs that are healthy and supportive of us don’t always feel good in the moment, but they help us align our actions with what we want to see in the world. This week, rather than defending yourself against conflict, consider whether it can offer you support toward deeper alignment.

Aquarius: Anarchy is a word we use to describe the absence of hierarchy, which is different than subverting the expected or rebelling against it. In order for something to be abnormal, we have to know what normal is. In order to rebel against hierarchy, we have to understand it rather than abolish it. This week invites you to consider the ways hierarchy serves you rebellion. Consider what it would look like to align your actions to yourself instead of against a system.

Pisces: Codependence happens when we try to get our needs met through accommodating the unhealthy behaviors of the people closest to us. By contrast, interdependence happens when we are honest with ourselves about our needs, open to having them met, and also take responsibility for our own boundaries. Easy lift right? This week, your spotlight is extra focused on your partners and closest accomplices. That is okay, and also remember to be honest about the needs you have, rather than using manipulation to get them fulfilled.
