Enforce Boundaries: Horoscopes August 31-September 6, 2026
This week, we have the two “malefic” planets in cardinal signs in tense aspect to each other. Coming off of eclipse season, this is another frustrating and destabilizing influence that asks us to slow down and release expectations that create pressure.
“Malefic” was an ancient designation for the planets Saturn and Mars that carried into Hellenistic times. This has come back into use in the past ten or fifteen years in the astrological community, but many reasonably question the benefit of this designation. It tends to imply an evil intent to the planets that can become unhealthy.
Instead, if we look at the astrological weather like the mundane weather, we can notice that we prefer some weather and not others, but also we can make plans for all weather. Enforcing our boundaries is like wearing a raincoat in the rain. It protects us, rather than arguing with a force outside of our control. The planets do not wish us ill any more than the snow does, and also if we understand them, we can work with them instead of against them.

For horoscope principles this week, I am primarily looking at the following celestial events:
Monday, August 31, 2026:
Venus in Libra enters her pre-retrograde shadow at 7:45am Pacific. This is the point Venus will return to when she begins her retrograde on October 3. As we enter the pre-shadow, watch for relationships returning and old relationship patterns showing up. Now that you have grown and learned, incorporate your learning into these encounters and see where patterns repeat versus where something new happens.
Jupiter in Leo trines Saturn in Aries at 3:17pm Pacific. This offers the energy of structured growth, and in fire signs, this can be big fire. We are still in fire season, and so if you have the inclination to feel over-confident on this day, keep in mind that your actions still have consequences. Intentionally center safety in what you do so that your structured growth serves you. Especially with Mars approaching square to Saturn, which is exact the next day, this can be frustrating energy, where there is both too much inclination toward expansion and too much limitation.
Tuesday, September 1, 2026:
Mars in Cancer squares Saturn in Aries at 2:58am Pacific. This brings the energy of urgency toward action met with limitation. We can feel like we have our feet on the gas and the breaks at the same time, and so it can feel very frustrating. Go slow to go fast.
Mercury in Virgo sextiles Mars in Cancer at 6:21am Pacific. This brings the practical ability to plan effective and nurturing care. Although our actions might be met with resistance on this day because of the Saturn transit, we can still plan the practical, constructive, nurturing steps we can take in the future. Question any urgency that comes up, but let the practical planning flow.
Thursday, September 3, 2026:
The Sun in Virgo goes from Gate 40 (giving from a place of sacred boundaries) to Gate 64 (confusion as the path to creativity) at around 4am Pacific. This transition offers us the opportunity to allow the external world to be full of pressures and chaos, and come back to the one simple step we can take or thing we can say that represents who we are and what we offer. Rather than organizing the outer world, we can be who we truly are and honor our sacred spark of life in the midst of the outer world.
The Moon travels through Aries, Taurus, Gemini, and into Cancer this week; Uranus continues in Gemini; Neptune continues in Aries; Pluto continues in Aquarius.
These are the principles to consider for the week of August 31, 2026. It is worth taking a look at both your rising and sun sign horoscopes (visit astro.com to find your rising sign):
Aries: Anger is a healthy emotion, but if we repress it, it can contribute to serious illnesses. One way to make room for anger is to go into your car somewhere away from people, and practice screaming. You can even hit your steering wheel. This week, it is important to find outlets for anger and frustration that come up so that your body, home, and the people closest to you don’t inadvertently absorb it.
Taurus: Just because it makes other people uncomfortable does not mean an idea or creative project is wrong for you. This week, write down your ideas as they come, and when your inner critic gets loud, ask them to sit in the back seat. They might have some helpful feedback later, but right now, it is important to allow the ideas to come without censoring them. After everything is written down, take a break and don’t edit until this week’s conflict has passed.
Gemini: Notorious BIG says “Mo money, mo problems,” which are problems most of us would be glad to have. If you run into money problems right now, trust in your ability to sit with conflict and confusion, write about it, chat about it, and come to some kind of clarity and creativity related to your overall values in life. The problems you have right now are not because you’ve done anything wrong, but are there to teach you what you truly value.
Cancer: When we are developing any skill, the stage where we are aware of our own incompetence is the most challenging part and the space where many people quit practicing. Right now, you are more uncomfortably aware of the mistakes and missteps you make and their impact on not just your results, but also other people. Rather than going into freeze and stagnation, challenge yourself to fail more and embrace results you don’t want as strength training.
Leo: Before we can find creative solutions to the world’s biggest problems, we start with conflict and confusion. In that way, conflict and confusion are healthy starting points for creativity. This week, pay special when you run into unreasonable rules and restrictions to whether you start to criticize yourself. That is the path toward stagnation. Instead, lean on your ability to sit with confusion until you find creativity. Write about your problems and how they relate to what you value most.
Virgo: When we try to fix ourselves to get what we want from the universe, it is like thinking if we fix ourselves it will stop the rain. It works better to wear a raincoat. This week, when people show up in ways that irritate you, rather than trying to fix yourself or negotiate with them, make decisions about where to put your body and your attention that serve your safety and preferences. If you don’t understand what they’re doing, get curious about it instead of critical. You’re more likely to discover a creative solution that way.
Libra: Less thinking, more doing. This week brings you tremendous energy to get sh*t done. If other people are dragging their feet, just know that everyone is being hit differently by the cosmos right now, and not many people are having the jolt of problem solving ability that you are. If you start to overthink, remember that your thinking serves you if it is solving actual problems in the external world. If it is just criticizing you under the auspices of protecting you from criticism, shift focus away from perfect and toward action.
Scorpio: When we have a vision and know what we want, the limitations of time and space become deeply unfair. You may feel that injustice keenly this week, and even be extra frustrated with the limitations of your body and daily habits. Rely on your friend and social groups to help you alchemize that frustration into creative solutions that support your emerging vision of who you are in your public-facing service roles. Slowing down will help you implement that vision toward more long-term success.
Sagittarius: Big Ideas feel important, but it is not until we write them down and test them out in real life that we can tell whether they are healthy or absurd. This week, you may feel full of Big Ideas and insights into higher thinking. Before you go on LinkedIn and advertise yourself as a thought leader, write down your Big Ideas and test them out in the real world. Track what they create, and why they are meaningful for you personally. Rather than imposing them on other people, model them in your life.
Capricorn: Healthy boundaries include a plan for how we will create safety when other people violate them. Control, on the other hand, expects other people to behave how we want. Boundaries bring our lives into our own authority. Trying to control other people, contrary to what it seems, puts our power in their hands. This week, if people seem out of control, enforce your boundaries by creating safety for yourself, rather than trying to control them.
Aquarius: The universe may generally conspire in your favor, but wear a helmet. That is my own version of the Russian proverb, “Trust but verify.” This week, you are more prone to injuries than usual. Worrying about it is not helpful, but instead wear your safety gear. Especially as you do your normal travels and walk around your house, take extra care. You have lots of reason to be confident in your ability to navigate weird circumstances, and one of the reasons is that you know how to be cautious without giving into unhelpful vigilance.
Pisces: Overwhelm is a feeling, not an observation of reality. It often comes on when we have decided we need to organize the entire world before we are allowed to feel safe enough to rest. Then, our brains overload us so much that we collapse. This week, sleep first, before your brain tricks you into collapsing. It may feel like you have things to prove related to partners, children, or creative projects, but come back to what you value most. If you value health, choose health. If you value rest, choose rest. If you value life, choose life right now in this moment, without a set of requirements before you get to live.
